English Ceilidh Dancing

The style of dancing performed at Knees-Ups and similar events often goes under the name of English ceilidh dancing or eceilidh. The term 'ceilidh' is Scottish, but we English have highjacked it to refer to the more energetic sort of folk dance. You can find it all explained on the ECeilidh site, which includes Dave Ingledew's Energetic Ceilidh Dancing in England, and on Martin Kiff's excellent and comprehensive Webfeet pages, which contain lists of regular ceilidhs and of ceilidh bands. You may also want to join the English Ceilidh Discussion List.
